Walter “Pete” Morrison Robertson, 84 years of age entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 24, 2023 in Tyler, Texas. Pete was born on July 15,1939 in Longview TX to parents Jessie Crosby “J.C.” Morrison and May Bee Smithart Morrison.
On January 4,1946, a tornado struck their community near Palestine, Texas killing Pete’s parents, little brother Charles Ray and Uncle Homer Morrison. Pete survived and was adopted by his aunt Bernice who raised him. He graduated Palestine High School in 1956 and enlisted in the Navy, honorably discharged after serving 4 years. While in the Navy, he completed 2 years of college course credit. His time in the Navy took him to California where he was introduced to Norma Lee Maddux and they later married in Hawaiian Gardens, California on January 3, 1959.
After the Navy, he began a career in construction as a laborer, then a carpenter apprentice and journeyman carpenter. From there, he became a leadman, foreman, project superintendent and project manager. He oversaw tract homes and luxury apartments in Georgia, Texas, and Florida, along with a country club, a racquet club and reconstruction of a 100 year old mansion. His career was marked with high ethical standards, personal integrity, quality consciousness and cost effective methods.
Outside of work, Pete meandered through hobbies; coaching his son’s little league teams, bowling in leagues with friends, and an occasional fishing trip with his “Pops”. He always had a project he was working on around the house. As he moved to various cities, he seemed to gravitate to the home team… Astros in Houston, Braves in Atlanta, Rangers in East Texas, but one constant in football, He was always a Dallas Cowboys fan. Later he spent time raising chickens, attending poultry shows and tending many dogs. He most enjoyed creative writing “words from the heart”. His storytelling and poetry always contained a message. www.rancherwriterpoet.com
Pete possessed a steadfast faith, as evident in his writings and involvement in the Church. He served as a Deacon in the church and enjoyed singing in the choir and the music ministry. One of his most treasured experiences was his “Walk to Emmaus”, a retreat inspiring Christian discipleship and development.
Pete is survived by his wife Jennie of Grand Saline, Texas, his children: Cheryl Lynne Keys and Ken of Cypress TX, Kimberly Ann Sanders and David of Alvarado TX, and Charles Ray and Ashley of Houston TX, Grandchildren: Jeremy Earnest, Misty Molina, Justin Keys, Courtney Keys, Natalie Lockett and Natassia McIntosh, and 12 great-grandchildren.
