Walter "Baby Ray" Hinton was born in Carthage, Texas, Panola County on March 10, 1943 to the parents of – Rias Hinton & Josie Amy. Walter was preceded in death, by his father - Rias Hinton, mother - Josie Amy, (5) brothers’- Henry Hinton, Ebb Hinton, Thomas “Pete” Moore, Bobby Roy “Bobcat” Hinton, Oscar “Pop” Amy and Arthur “Champ” Amy, (1) sister - Clara Hinton.
Walter graduated from Turner High School in Carthage, Texas (1962). He was immediately drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War and after his time served he received an honorary discharge. He furthered his education at Texas Southern University (TSU) and Houston Community College.
Walter then began his career in the Oil and Gas industry as a machinist for WKM/Cooper Industries and later retired after 35 plus years. During his retirement “Golden” years Walter truly enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, BBQ’ing and spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, God-children and a host of family/friends. Furthermore, with all the love he flourished throughout his Houston home, he couldn’t resist spreading his caring heart to his country home in Deberry, Texas. He made sure that the ones that he loved were taken care of and that no one was left behind!
Walter leaves to cherish his memories - son, Walter “Stanley” Hinton Jr. (Beaumont, TX.), daughter, Amy S. Hinton (Atlanta, GA.), (5) Grand-children - Navasha Hinton, Jasmine Jackson, Ajunai Culton, Ambria Johnson, and Christian White Hinton, (1) Great-granddaughter – A’marie B. Lindsey, (2) brothers’- Orr Hinton (Jonita) (Deberry, TX.), Joe Hinton (Deberry, TX.), (5) sisters’- Vera Thomas, Dora Burns (both reside in Carthage, TX.), Ola V. “Sue” Jackson (Norman) (Deberry, TX.), Lois Robinson (Dallas, TX.), Earnestene Roberson (Frank) (Deberry, TX.) and step-children, God-children, numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, December 31, 2015 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039 and Friday, January 1, 2016 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Brookside Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church, FM 31 South County Road 3193, Carthage (Deadwood), Texas 75633 followed with burial in the Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery.
