Walter G. Davis Jr. (Mickey) passed away on April 9, 2017 at the age of 79. Walter was born June 30, 1937, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Walter was the eldest son of Walter G. Davis Sr. and Kathryn A. Caston. He spent most of his life in Houston, Texas where he attended public schools and graduated from Reagan High School in the Heights. Walter had numerous jobs in Houston; he worked at the Metropolitan Theater as an usher, worked for the Houston Chronicle as a copy boy and Foleys downtown. After he met his wife Martha, Walter began his career as a Tug Boat captain and worked in Galveston. Then he began working for Brown & Root and Kimmin’s Corporation. While working for Brown & Root he traveled many places but his favorite was when he worked in the Bahamas. He loved the water. He loved to fish, travel, camping and was extremely good a woodwork, building elaborate birdhouses and loved to grill for family and friends.
Walter also found time to belong to the Masonic Lodge, which he began in 1970. He also belonged to a CB Club and the Fraternal Order of the Moose Lodge.
Of the things that mattered most to Walter was his family and friends. Walter met Martha in 1953 and they were married in 1955 in Galena Park, Texas. He kept her laughing throughout her days and lovingly cared for her. Walter and Martha decided to make the most of every day, no matter what.
Walter is survived by his 4 children, Donald Davis, Dana Davis, Debbie Sizemore and Barbara Davis. He has 5 grand children Christy Ramirez, Lisa Sizemore, Becky Fithen, Jack Terry Sizemore Jr. and Destin Davis. He also has 6 great-grandchildren, Katelyn Ramirez, Marissa Ramirez, Olivia Fithen, Claire Fithen, Juliet Fithen and Jackson Sizemore.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Martha who passed away October 26, 2015. If Walter were here to speak to us, he would always have great stories about fishing and his life travels and he was always joking around.
Visitation will be April 14, 2017 from 12:30pm to 2pm at the Brookside Funeral Home - Houston, TX. The funeral service will be at 2pm and immediately following graveside service in Brookside Memorial Park.
