Wallace Mathis Dillard was 82 years old when he left for his heavenly home. He was born on September 2nd, 1941, to Edith and Hollis Dillard in the tiny town of Rosston, Arkansas. He was the fourth in the family of five siblings, his loving brother Charlie Dillard survived him and was preceded in death by sisters Nadine Wortman, Edna Ruth Hurley and baby brother Horild Doyle Dillard. Wallace passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on Monday, October 9th, 2023. During his final days he was constantly cared for by his loving wife, daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Dillard, their 3 daughters and grandchildren. Elaine Dillard, Patricia Dillard-Cody, Leslie and her husband Clint Billington and grandchildren: Cedric Cody, Annabelle Walker, Mathis Walker, Ian Cody, Juliette Cody, Reagan Billington and Ella Billington, Dr. Alex and Michaela Linares.
Wallace was an adoring husband, father, and grandfather. He really enjoyed spending time with his whole family. They enjoyed incredible vacations together and shared in his love of travel. These vacations created many incredible lasting memories for the family to hold near and dear to their hearts.
Wallace attended Lamar High School in 1959. Wallace served in the Army in France from 1960-1963 and was honorably discharged.
Wallace Dillard has worked in the Houston Construction market since 1958, beginning his career with general contractor P.G. Bell, working on large-scale commercial projects including schools, hospitals, industrial facilities, and public works.
In 1967 Wallace was recognized by the Houston Chamber of Commerce for his invaluable assistance in the Civic Development of Allen’s Landing Park.
In 1980, Mr. Dillard went into business as the general partner of Sea Turtle, Inc. which specialized in offshore and petroleum industry designs, and has subsequently been the principal in D.K. Structures, Dillard & Weaver Construction, WMD Design Group, and W.M. Dillard & Associates.
Through this time period, Wallace made a great impact on the Houston landscape through the development, design, and construction of a multitude of buildings. As a general contractor, Wallace built numerous manufacturing facilities, METRO Park & Rides, US Post Office facilities, government buildings, office buildings, cold storage facilities, and tilt wall industrial warehouse facilities. As a developer, he was responsible for acres of industrial and office development in Northwest Houston. As a designer, he came up with some unique flavors of design that he incorporated into his warehouse and office buildings. His accomplishments were many and certainly recognized by the brokerage and development community in Houston.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by the Celebration of Life service starting at 2:00 pm. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Christ Community Church, 1303 Sherwood Forest St., Houston, Texas 77043.
