Wade H. Etheridge, M.D., was born on 10/26/18, the third child of Era & Leonard Etheridge of Trenton, Tennessee. At the age of 3 months he received a severe injury of his right hand that resulted in marked impairment of his hand all his life. In spite of this, he overcame this disability and practiced surgery all of his adult life. He obtained his M.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Arkansas Medical School, a rotating internship in Norfolfk, Virginia and a residency in surgery in San Fransisco. After he was certified by the American Board of Surgery and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, prior to retirement, he was a member of the Harris Co. Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the South Texas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Association of Military Surgeons, and the Southern Surgical Associates. Doctor Etheridge served with the Armed Forces in WWII and was discharged with the rank of colonel.
His hobby was medical photography, having accumulated an extreme collection of medical slides of surgical specimen and movies of surgical operations for training purposes. At one time, he was a visiting lecturer to senior medical students at the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston. He was an avid golfer and member of Willowisp Golf Club.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Annie Marie Graff, in 1938 and their loving union produced two daughters, Ann Wadette Mayer of Harlingen, TX. and Patricia Ann Etheridge, now deceased.
He was preceded in death by his soul mate and light of his life in October 2011.
He is survived by his one daughter, Ann and husband James E. Mayer Jr., two granddaughters, Mary Jane Hetrick and husband Tom, Janine Marie Campbell and husband Jason, and three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mitchell, and Trevor Hetrick.
A memorial service will be held at Forest Park on Saturday, June 15 at 2PM. Internment will be held at the same location on June 22 at 10AM.
