My mom told me that my father was out of the army by the time I was born. He would carry me everywhere.

My father’s creativity could occur at anytime. I remember one early Saturday morning. He woke me & said, “Be. Wake up. I need you to pose for me.” As a typical kid on a Saturday morning, I answered, “Dad. It’s Saturday and it’s raining.” To encourage me to get up he promised me that it wouldn’t take long and that I won’t get wet. He kept his promise to me & I crawled back to bed. I never really saw him as an artist. He was just my dad. 

The one thing my father gave me was the love of music. 

Bac Văn Vu passing  has saddened the hearts of all COFFA members. Bac was with us from the very beginning, at the very first meeting in my backyard when Bac accepted our invitation to be advisor for COFFA (a photography group based in Houston. COFFA stands for “Circle Of Friends For Art”). Bac is very much loved and respected by all of us. Bac was our valuable critic who encouraged COFFA to always go deeper in exploring the art of photography, to not fear to try new ways of expressing art. 

The day COFFA learned of Bac passing, we all felt the grief of losing a very good friend. Tuan, a COFFA member, felt compelled to write four beautiful poem lines to dedicate to Bac, an artist who had lived a very full life engaging in art everyday of his life.

With Tuan’s permission, I created this photo to honor Bac who was my friend and my mentor in life and art for a very long time.

We all will miss you very much, Bac.

My dad was so talented, he designed and worked with contractors to build our Beach Villa home.  There were abstract art designs in stones built in the wall in the front of the house.   So many fond memories from there, walking on the beach in the evening, listen to the waves, etc..  I just hope I inherit even just a little artistic side from my dad.
