Virginia Murl was born on November 21 to the late Colbert and Mattie Ruth Johnson in Beaumont, Texas. The Family moved to Houston and Virginia attended school in the Houston Independent School District. She graduated from Phillis Wheatley Junior and Senior High School. She attended Texas Southern University and obtained a Bachelor Degree in Education and a Masters in Special Education. She began her teaching career with the Houston Independent School District and retired after 30 years with the same district. After retiring she became a substitute teacher. As a child, Virginia confesses Christ at an early age and was baptized at Trinity Gardens First Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. After becoming a member she served faithfully as an usher. Early in life she met and married the love of her life, Finis White and was bonded together 60 years until his untimely death; four children were added to this union. Sister Virginia White united with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church after marrying Deacon Finis White sixty years ago; under the leadership of the late Pastor A. A. McCardell, Sr., and continues to serve under the leadership of Pastors C. L. Jackson and Sheldon L. Jackson. Sister Virginia White served and worked in many areas of the church; former Sunday School teacher in the Intermediate Department, former writer and news reporter for the church, former President of Hannah Circle under Mission II, a member of the Deaconess and Minister Wives, member of the Usher Board and a member of the Adult Women Class in the Adult Women Sunday School Department. Sister Virginia White always express to her family how she loved her Pastors and church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Colbert and Mattie Ruth Johnson, one brother, Theodore Roosevelt Edison, husband, Deacon Finis White and other family members. She leaves to cherish her memories, four loving children, Dennis White, Felecia White (Dezell Young), Reverend James White (LaTrisha) and Zanetta White Wiley (Gabriel); eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one niece, Alice Ruth Guinn with a host of other relatives and friends.
