Virginia "Virgie" Trevino

She was born in Baytown, Texas, on the 12th of June 1934, to Onofre and Guadalupe Garcia Gonzalez. Virgie graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, attended the University of Texas at Austin, and in 1960 graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

On the 14th of August 1955, she married Adán Treviño and they remained dedicated to one another until her passing. In 1957, her two daughters were born, Cynthia in January, and Glorianna in December. Despite having two babies, she honored her promise to her father to graduate from college and began her teaching career. She served the Brownsville ISD, Spring Branch ISD and Houston ISD, teaching English, Spanish, and Journalism. After several years, she chose to become a homemaker to raise her girls. Her calling back to the field of education came in the form of a position in Human Resources with HISD until she retired at age 63 to spend more time traveling around the world with her husband and their very best friends.

Virgie always made sure her family came first. She supported her husband in his many business ventures, including the establishment of Amex Pharmacy and KXLN Channel 45 Houston’s first Hispanic television station. She enjoyed the activities and auxiliaries of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas College of Pharmacy, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Sembradores de Amistad. She had recently been promoted to Lady in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem honoring her lifelong commitment to lead an exemplary Christian life.

Virgie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Adán; daughters, Cynthia Miller and her husband Lee, and Glorianna O’Donnel and her husband Michael; also known as “Mimi” to her very special grandchildren, Jessica and Adam Seymour, and Lauren and Blake O’Donnel; and her brother, Onofre Gonzalez and his wife Mary Jo; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, godsons and goddaughters.

The family wishes to especially thank the doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists who cared for her at Methodist Hospital.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening, Wednesday, the 6th of November, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where a recital of the holy rosary is to commence at half-past seven o’clock, led by Deacon Tom Newhouse.

A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 7th of November, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Douglas J. Guthrie, Parochial Vicar, is to serve as celebrant.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Parish Life Center.

At one o’clock, the family and their guests will depart for the Rite of Christian Burial, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
