Virginia was born in Houston to John and Mary Hernandez on the 6th of October 1935. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School and then went on to nursing school before becoming the co-owner of a successful jewelry business.
While at nursing school, Virginia met her first husband, Captain Manuel ‘Rocky’ Cervantes Jr. during a mixer at Ellington Field Air Force Base. They were soon married and welcomed their children Manuel, Michael and Shamaine.
Virginia, Rocky and their family were stationed at air-force bases in Warrensburg Missouri and Peru, Indiana where Rocky passed away in a tragic aviation accident. Returning to Houston with her young family, Virginia met and married Mike Klein, and soon welcomed their son Mark into the family. Together Virginia and Mike started Klein’s Jewelry, which soon became a pre-eminent Texas Jewelry business with multiple stores in Houston.
Virginia was a beautiful, strong, caring woman, mother, and friend to many. She loved to travel domestically and internationally. She had a fondness for Las Vegas and always seemed to leave a little richer than when she came.
A passionate tennis player and spectator, Virginia was a member of Westwood Country Club where she played doubles for many years. She also spent many weekends with her family and friends at the family beach house in Galveston, and lake house at Walden.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Mike; sons Manuel and Michael; and parents Mary and Jesse Guedea. She is survived by her daughter, Shamaine Pleczko and her husband Rick; son, Mark Klein and his wife Stephanie; and grandchildren, Alex, Ava, Ashton, Kade, Candace and Colten. She will also be remembered by her sister Linda Perez and her husband Paul, and their extended family.
The family would like to give special thanks to Maria Calvac and her family for their devoted and loving care of Virginia.
The family will gather for a private service to celebrate her life.
