Virginia Wicks Douglas (Ginnie) passed away peacefully on Friday, December 21, 2018 at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born on November 5, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Oliver and Eleanor Graham Wicks.
Ginnie was raised in Pittsburgh along with her brother, John Oliver Wicks III, and graduated from Pine Manor College. She married Robert Jackson Douglas of Beaver Falls, PA in 1948, in Pittsburgh. The couple lived at Dartmouth College while Bob finished his MBA at the Tuck School of Business. He took a position with Gulf Oil, which employment took the couple from Pittsburgh, where a daughter, Deborah, was born, to Philadelphia, PA, and then to Houston, TX, where a second daughter, Cynthia, was born. The family settled in Port Arthur, TX, where Kathryn, Nancy, Peter, and David were born. There were many happy, crazy times raising 6 children in Port Arthur. In time, they moved to Cincinnati, OH, and finally back to Houston, TX. Ginnie dedicated her life to her husband, large family, and faith. She prayed for all of her family by name every day and always said how blessed and lucky we all are, because even with our differences and varied opinions, we all care for and love each other. She instilled that love of family in her children and grandchildren.
Ginnie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Douglas. She is survived by her six children, daughter Debbie Douglas and her husband Dave Yager, daughter Cindy Webb and her husband Paul Webb, daughter Kathy Francis and her husband Randall Carr, daughter Nancy Devlin, son Peter Douglas and his wife Bernetta Douglas, son David Douglas, and 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 10 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston. A celebration of Ginnie’s life, and the interment, will be on Friday, January 11, at 2:00pm, at Memorial Oaks, with a celebration to follow.
