Virgil C. Reed passed away on Jan. 20, 2011. Third generation Houstonian, born July 27, 1921, to William Culberson and Winnie Mae Cain Reed. Grandparents: Hiram Calvin Cain & Mary Ellen Conway Reed. Attended First Baptist Church in downtown Houston until his parents joined with six other couples to form the second Baptist Church of Houston. Attended elementary and junior high schools in Houston, where his mother was a teacher for over 47 years. Graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy in 1938. Majored in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Houston and the University of Southern California. Combat veteran in World War II; Pacific Theater; (Kwajalein, Spain, &
Okinawa); 101st USNCB, 5th Amphibious Force. Employed by Texaco; Chicago and Southern Airlines; The Borden Company; Alloy Rods Company; Gulf Coast Piping Contractors Association; Construction Employers Association; and Piping Industry Welding Service. Screen writer and film editor for Television Productions of America on three television series (Lassie, Fury, and Count of Monte Cristo). Feature film writer of "Sam Bass". Founded FANTASTIC HOMES, INC, of Houston , innovative volume homebuilders; METILS. INC. national welding inspection and quality control laboratory (British Petroleum, North Slope Alaska Project) and REMSCO, INC, manufacturer of radiographic equipment. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Reed Peikert, of Dallas TX. Grandchildren, Meredith McGlamery, & Jordan Ehrig, niece and nephew Linda Carol Lundgren, & Thomas Cliffors Reed, cousins, Mary K. Holland, John Scott Woods, Carrie Anita Woods Jones, Barbara Ann Woods Donovan, and Andra Spickard Yorstoun. Many wonderful friends and students.
Visitation will be held Sunday January 23, 2011 from 1-2 p.m. followed by the funeral services at 2 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home Main Chapel.
