Virgil Mott, Sr. was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, November 4, 2011. He was born April 21, 1922 in West Columbia, Texas. Upon graduating from Giddings High School, he entered the Army Air Corps during World War II. On April 7, 1945, Virgil and Odessa Doty of Alief, TX, were united in marriage. After his honorable discharge, Virgil returned to Houston/Sugar Land to become a lifelong entrepreneur. He always said he graduated from the School of Hard Knocks. During the 40’s & 50’s, he worked simultaneously in the dairy business, as a rice farmer, and as a home builder. Over the next 40 years, Virgil added cattle ranching, commercial real estate and development, oil and gas operations, and Doty Sandpit co-owner and operator to his list of successful ventures.
Even greater than Virgil’s passion for business was his passion for the Lord and His work. He was involved in building several churches and served on numerous church and ministry boards including Lakewood Church with John and Dodie Osteen, and Faith Assembly. He was also a faithful and encouraging friend to many pastors and ministers. Virgil served over 26 years as an International Director and several years as Houston Chapter President of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International, speaking all over theU.S.and abroad. For the past 23 years he and his wife, Martha, have been very involved with Pastors Tommy and Rachel Burchfield Ministries’ Country Camp for Youth, Columbus, TX, Triumph Church of Nederland and Sugar Land, TX, Pastors Randy & Renee Clark, and his home church, Houston Worship Centre, with Pastors Randy and Lucie Needham.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 37 years, Odessa, and brothers Glenn and George. Virgil is survived and will be dearly missed by Martha, his loving and adoring wife of 25 years, his sister, Roberta Cooper, his beloved son, Virgil, Jr., his daughter-in-law, Tammy, his grandchildren, Julianna, Emily, Joshua, and Zachary, his sister-in-law, Margie Medrano, and her husband, Johnny, his niece, Jessica, his sister-in-law, Norma Jean Doty, numerous nieces and nephews, and his precious dog, Pepper.
