In the afternoon of January 18, 2019, Violet Marie Sauter Curtis (Vi) entered Heaven’s gate. She spent her final days surrounded by family and love. At the the ripe age of 93 she lived to see many changes and advances in the world… space shuttle, man on the moon, microwave, TV, too many wars, and even computers as phones (which she always tried to keep up with today’s technology).
Vi was a devout Christian. Her lifelong Christian faith was unwavering and the love, compassion, patience, kindness, and joy she shared will forever be a footprint in her family & friend’s soul. She was a member of Spring Woods United Methodist Church for many years and enjoyed fellowship with her Lee Bible Study Class. Vi shined bright like a star singing in the church choir & she found great joy volunteering her time, baking, and sewing skills for the church. Vi had many dear friends at Spring Woods and enjoyed spending time with them.
Violet was born in Catonsville, Maryland on March 26, 1925 to Arnold and Marie Sauter. She grew up with her two brothers, Charles & Bud in Maryland. Violet worked as a secretary in Washington DC for the government and in Amarillo, Texas for the Dean of Amarillo College. Maryland is where she first met Stanley John Curtis (Stan) and in turn the love of her life. They married June 26, 1946 and then moved to Durham North Carolina where Stan completed his degree in Petroleum Engineering at Duke University. As Stan’s career soared they relocated from state to state. They had three children, Violet devoted her time to stay at home and raise their family. She was creative, outgoing, fun, and always finding new adventures. Vi was passionate about baking and won several Betty Crocker Best Baker awards, landing her recipes in the Betty Crocker Cook Book. This was one of many achievements and awards she would receive as she also excelled in bowling and sewing. Violets love and compassion for her children and grandchildren no words can describe. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with them. Her heart was full of love and kindness that her family will always remember and cherish.
Violet is survived by three of her children, Stanley John Curtis, Jr. and wife Tami, Nancy Marie Bennett and friend Teresa, Dr. David William Curtis and fiancé Sherry; all her grandchildren Heather Bennett, April Bennett, Jennifer Curtis, Matthew Curtis, and Christopher Curtis as well as 15 great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband Stanley Curtis, and her brother Bud.
