Vincent Luré Thomas “LEVELED-UP” and entered into eternal rest with HIS Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 19, 2016 at the age of 43. The only son born to Willie Lee Thomas and Ernestine White on October 6, 1972 in Newport News, VA, he united with his best friend, Chauncét E. Thomas on March 27, 1999 making Houston, TX home.
Vincent was educated in the Hampton City School system attending Barron Elementary, Simms Junior High School and Kecoughtan High School (KHS) where he graduated in 1991. During his KHS tenure he was Captain of the Varsity Football Team, a member of the KHS Choral Arts Department and the KHS Choral Ensemble Harbor Lights.
His dedication to his education led him to Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Geological Science and was an active member of the University Choir, Christian Fellowship and Team Manager to the ECSU Vikings football team. Vincent later obtained a Master of Science in Geological Science from The University of South Carolina where he served as the Assistant Director of the gospel choir.
Vincent’s formal education landed him at Exxon as a Sr. Geologist for a few years, when he was presented the opportunity to pursue his passion…teaching. As a Certified Special Education Teacher in Houston area public schools, Vincent quickly exceled and later became a Special Education Administrator, reaching children and families on a broad scale.
Vincent had a warm and welcoming smile, with a magnetic personality. He undoubtedly loved life, enjoyed smiling, laughing, telling & playing jokes, singing, dancing, football, basketball, and all cooking shows! He was an excellent, self-taught cook who had a wonderful way of making every occasion a “teachable moment”. This greatly contributed to his exemplary parenting skills, even teaching all three of his children how to cook!
Vincent had a great gift of grace and loved to sing. At an early age, he and his sister, Cathy, ministered in song at various churches and continued until their adulthood, ultimately training his children. With a strong passion and gift in helping people, he professed his belief in Christ at an early age, later accepted the Call into ministry in 1991 and finally ordained in 2002. Vincent dedicated his life to being a “living example” of the Great Commission, shared his love of the gospel, worshiped God through song and was a shining light of hope and comfort to many.
Vincent was an exceptional, loving & caring husband & father, cherished son, beloved brother & uncle, devoted grandson, cousin & nephew and treasured friend and leaves to cherish his memories, a faithful, best friend & wife of 17 years, Chauncét E. The family would like to express their gratitude for all of the encouragement, kind words, support and laughs from family and friends, and for the extraordinary care and spiritual strength given to Vincent by Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center PT Wound Care Dept. and Simplex Home Health.
With a smile to remember and a heart to admire, Vincent impacted lives all over the world.
His selfless personality and loving nature was one that could never be extinguished by physical limitations. We all loved him dearly, but God LOVED him BEST.
Humbly Submitted,
The Family
