Mrs. Victoria Shukri Ganim fell asleep in the Lord on the 19th of January 2016, in Houston, surrounded by her loving family. Victoria was born on the 11th of February1925, in Ramallah, Palestine, to parents Nimer and Labibeh Akel. She was one of six children, and was preceded in passing by her siblings Yousef, Wadea, Jalileh, Nabiha, and Nabih.
She married Shukri Ganim on the 10th of July 1939, at St. George Orthodox Church in Ramallah, Palestine. They settled in Houston in 1967, where Victoria would dedicate her life to her family and church.
Victoria was beloved by all for her wisdom, humor, generous heart, and love of God. She leaves a legacy of spiritual richness and kindness to all who knew her!
She is survived by her children, Ibrahim, his wife Gloria, Aida, Dena and her husband Imad Khalaf, and Dr. Mazen and his wife Joanne; her grandchildren, Shukri and his wife Dima, Dahlia, Dr. Lena and her husband John Zaid, Johnny and his wife Sandra, Dr. Khaled and his wife Amal, Dr. Natalia, Shukri, Jeries, Dr. Nidal, Tammer, Ramez, and George; and her great grandchildren, Ibrahim, George, Joseph, John, Ibrahim, Imad, Charles, Nidal and Victoria. Her name lives on! She was also beloved by her nephews and nieces Ganim, Misadeh, Shihadeh, Eisa, Nijmeh Ganim and their families, as well as the Akel family of Jacksonville, Florida.
The family of Victoria Ganim would like to thank the entire St. George Orthodox Church community and their greater Ramallah family for their well wishes and prayers, and for filling Victoria’s life with love and friendship.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 22nd of January, at St. George Orthodox Church, 5311 Mercer Street in Houston, where the Trisagion Prayers are to commence at seven o’clock.
The funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 23rd of January, also at St. George Orthodox Church.
Interment is to immediately follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
May Victoria Ganim’s memory be eternal.
