Victor English Manning, born November 18, 1933 left this life on November 11, 2013. He grew up in Rusk, Texas with wonderful parents and surrounded by a loving extended family and close friends. He spent his college years at Southwestern University where he earned his BBA, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Texas. After earning his CPA credentials he began his lifetime career as a tax attorney.
While in the tax department with Ernst and Ernst CPA firm, he was offered the opportunity to live and work in England as the tax man for Americans in the UK and Europe. This was a life challenging adventure to live and work in a different culture and broaden his understanding of the world. Later, after a few years in Cleveland, Ohio, he and his family returned to Texas in 1975 to eventually begin his own private practice which continued until his death. He was a dedicated professional, serving his clients for decades.
Vic was gifted in many ways. He was a good and faithful son, brother, husband, father and friend. He had a fascination for his work. He had a brilliant mind and a love for good music, remaining a jazz aficionado all his life. Vic remained involved with his high school classmates and his university friends, serving on numerous alumni committees. Those who came into his life remained there, for he never forgot them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Hughlamae English Manning, and his brother, Philip Arlen Manning, Sr.
He is survived by his family: Marilyn, son Allen and partner Marci, son Victor, Jr., nephew Philip Manning, Jr., niece Rev. Meredith Manning Brown and Rev. Curtis Brown and their children, Joy and Charis; many dear cousins and a world of friends who will miss his love, laughter and good counsel.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 3:00 PM with a visitation starting at 2:00 PM in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024, followed by a celebration of his life in the events room. Interment will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Rusk Cemetery in Rusk, Texas at 2:00 PM.
