Our father, Vicente Escobar, was born on January 18, 1928 to Jose and Felipa Escobar who had just moved to Houston from Lovelady, Texas. Vicente had 4 sisters; Santos, Mercedes, Maria and Frances, and 2 brothers; Apolonio (his younger brother who passed away at the young age of 3 months) and Margarito.
Vicente was a vibrant young man and very adventurous. At the age of 15, Vicente left his home and lied about his age and became a Merchant Marine / U.S. Coast Guard from 1943-1945 and served his country during World War II. After the war, Vicente continued to work as a Merchant Marine until his enlistment into the U.S. Air Force and once again served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1956.
In 1959, Vicente married his young and beautiful wife, our mother, Juanita Rodriguez. They had (5) children; Jose, Juanita, Bobby, Vincent and the brat of the family Nancy. Vicente has (8) grandchildren; Joshua, Ashley, Amber, Kristopher, Melanie, Brittney, Sarah and Lillian and (5) great grandchildren Ethan, Eli, Caden, Avery and Riley whom he adored and deeply loved as if they were his own children.
Our father, Vicente, was a very loving and God-fearing man. He was always willing to help the less fortunate and as a young man after leaving home to be a Merchant Marine, he would consistently send money home to his mother to help with his siblings. Grandma would give much of this money to charity and to the church. Vicente continued to send money home, even through his upper years. Furthermore, our father was also instrumental in helping several members of his wife's family come to this great country by sponsoring them to gain citizenships. He never turned down a family member, friend or stranger if they needed help. After retirement our father continued to do charity work and help out at the Senior Citizen Center.
Our father was a hard worker, great husband to our mother and a very caring, loving and nurturing person. He was wise and full of knowledge and life as he had seen and traveled all around the world during his younger age and experienced many of Gods gifts and the bad as well. Approximately 5-6 years ago our father’s health took a turn for the worse and after being in and out of the hospital and putting up a hard fight he succumbed to his health issues and was called to be with the Lord on Friday, July 29, 2016.
As a family, we pray and give thanks to the Lord Almighty for giving him, our father Vicente, to each of his children and grandchildren as our earthly father and grandfather. We will see you again Dad and until we meet again in God's Kingdom, we will always love you, our beloved father, grandpa and husband.
