V.E. Rogers served his country in the US Navy from 1950-1954. He then joined the Houston Fire Dept. in 1955 and continued to serve the community for over 30 years as a firefighter. He was appointed to Fire Chief of the Houston Fire Dept. in 1978 and retired in 1984. He was well respected by his peers and never quit working after his “retirement.” VE was constantly busy whether it was improving real estate, building warehouses, helping others or simply sharing the fruit from his local garden. He was a Super-fantastic man who touched many lives and will never be forgotten. His passion for hard work and the great outdoors will be a lasting legacy on those closest to him. He also thrived on learning anything he could up to his final day. The family thanks God for sharing this wonderful man with all of us for 80 years and that he was called home while doing something that he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Georgia; his daughter Debbie Rogers; his son Vern Rogers, Jr.; his step-daughter, Michelle Mayes and her husband James; his six grandchildren Michael, Scott, John and Allen Rogers and James and Mackenzie Mayes; brother Dick Rogers and his wife Lois; sister, Dorothy; and his beloved dog Brandy Lynn.
