Una Clark Lawrence Brotherton, 99, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2016. She was born to Roy Albert and Mary Ila Lawrence in Denison, Texas on September 9, 1916. She graduated from Waxahachie High School and studied art at Texas Woman's University (formerly Texas State College for Women). She married Vivian Joe Brotherton on April 16, 1948 in Waxahachie, Texas. They were married 48 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Roy Lawrence, Woodson Brintle, Sidney Brintle, and infant twin sisters, and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Brotherton.Una committed her life to Christ at age 11 at the Missionary Baptist Church in Whitney, Texas. She was a member of Garden Oaks Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she delighted in teaching Sunday school to children's groups, as well as adult classes. She served the Lord in her church, and in her daily life. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Her many interests included painting, sewing, traveling, camping, cooking, and gardening. She was a member of the Conservative Arts Society. In her later years, Una volunteered at the Mission Center where she taught English.
She is survived by her children, Mary Clark Jennings and husband, Lawrence Jennings, Damon Joseph Brotherton and wife, Irene Joe Brotherton, Mark Allison Brotherton, and grandson, Samuel Jeremiah Brotherton. She is also survived by her sisters, Avis Cole, Marie Brintle, Dorothy Nell Foster, Arah Ann Tarver, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Pat H. Foley & Co. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
