Tony Hsien-Tung Hsieh of Fu-Zhou, Fu-jean Province, China was born on October 11, 1936 in Qing-Dao, Shan-dong Province. During his formative years in Taiwan, Tony was given traditional Chinese up-bringing by his late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tsun-Zhou Hsieh.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Chung-Yuang Christian University in Taiwan, Tony came to the United States for graduate study at the University of New Mexico where he earned a master’s degree. While working as a young engineer in St. Louis, he found his soul mate and partner for life, Stella Sun who was there pursuing her study in business. In 1970, Tony moved to Houston for a new job, and then married Stella here.
Throughout the years, Tony built a tremendously successful career as a structural engineer and manager with various engineering and construction companies including Brown & Root and Fluor Daniel, spearheading numerous engineering projects for highways, bridges, petrochemical plants, and offshore platforms. He was well respected and esteemed by his colleagues, business associates, and clients for the wealth of knowledge he possessed, the first-class work ethic he maintained, and the kindness and sincerity he always expressed toward others.
Tony was a devoted and loving husband and father to two sons, Emil and Joseph. As a successful business woman and active community leader, Stella always relied on Tony for loyal support and encouragement. In Emil and Joseph, both graduates of the University of Texas in Austin, Tony instilled excellent morals and superb values. Currently, Emil works as the Director of Sales at Penguin Computing in San Francisco, while Joseph is a Network Engineer at Charles Schwab in Austin. Tony was always very proud that he and Stella have together raised two wonderful gentlemen and productive members of the society. During his courageous fight against illness in the past few years, he never complained about the pains and discomfort he endured, only expressed his regret that he would be unable to care for his family.
Tony was an avid stamp collector, music lover, photographer, and culinary arts enthusiast. He enjoyed company of family and friends over fine cuisine, sometimes prepared by himself. He was well known as a generous, kind and gracious gentleman among the large circle of family friends and relatives.
