Tony Contreras, born August 8, 1954, a lifelong resident of Houston’s north side came to rest on January 8, 2015. He was born in Port Lavaca, Texas and lived most of his life in Houston. Tony is survived by five siblings, Johnny, Diana, Robert, Ruby, and Joey; his two sons and daughter in laws, Bryan, Veronica, Anthony and Jessica, along with their children; his former wife Gema, his step children Alex, George, Jessica, Brian, his daughters Viviana and Angelica, and his late son Casey’s wife Diane. His children surrounded him with many grandchildren that loved and adored him.
Beyond his immediate family, Tony also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, too many to cite, and friends all over Houston and Texas. His giving nature and genuine spirit attracted many people into his life. Tony remained a businessman his entire life, and worked very hard to build his small company.
Tony enjoyed a life of simple things, but at times experienced hardships that most would not understand. His heart, his mind, his sprit, and his presence were all a “force to be reckoned with”. His smile and laugh were contagious, and he had an incredible ability to take shortcomings in life, and turn them into positive outcomes. As Tony progressed through life he had a supernatural talent of carrying people when they needed him most.
As a child Tony’s family traveled Texas and beyond as migrant workers. His passion for music, dancing, and surfing kept his spirit young. Blues and soul music were a critical part of Tony’s world, and the words in those songs were the rules that led his life and captured his heart in simple terms. For a great man that at times lived a complicated life it is certain that he has finally found his “dock of the bay” and is enjoying a beautiful endless sunset in paradise.
