Thomas (Tommy) A. Jax, age 92, of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Tommy was born May 15th, 1931 to C.G. (Jerry) and Hazel D. Weingandt Jax in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Houston public schools graduating from Lamar High School in 1949. He then went to Southern Methodist University from 1949-1954 where he participated in football, was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and graduated with a BBA degree. He was a pilot in the United States Air Force from 1954-1957. He returned to Houston and for 23 years had his own business building homes and apartments. In 1980 he entered Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University receiving his Masters in Theology degree and ordination as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. Afterwards he served on the ministerial staff of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston. In 1985 he was ordained as an Elder in the ministry and continued serving several churches throughout Texas until he retired in 2004. During his retirement years he enjoyed building his home and maintaining his property in the Columbus Texas area.
Tommy was predeceased by his parents, his wife Brenda Kuhlmann Jax, his brothers Jerry Jax and Jimmy Jax, and sister in law Lou Jax. He is survived by Jerry’s wife Mary Kay Jax and Jimmy’s former wife FayAnn Abraira; his children Cathy Nickel and husband Mike, Janet Lorenz, Mona Smith and husband Jeff, and Alan McKeon and wife Karen; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;six nieces and nephews and their families.
A celebration of Tommy's life is to be held at 10:00 am Saturday November 4th at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. There will be a reception in the Forest Park Westheimer Event Room immediately following the celebration of life from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests with gratitude that contributions be made in Tommy's name to First United Methodist Church, Columbus Texas.
