Thomas “Tommy” Joseph Deane, passed away on the 16th of October 2023. He was 84 years of age. Tommy was born in Houston, on the 19th of January 1939, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Granville Mitchell Deane, Sr.
He attended Lamar High School and later joined the U.S. Air Force. Tommy was an owner/partner of Browning Ferris Machinery Co., which would later become Browing Ferris Industries (BFI). In 1971, he participated in the initial listing of BFI onto the New York Stock Exchange. He went on to achieve much success as the president of Head & Guild Machinery, president of Deane Machinery and co-owner of American Mat & Timber.
He was known for his great sense of humor and practical jokes. Heaven just got one fun guy!
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dianna Deane; his children, Derek Deane, Julie Deane Tatum and her husband Farrell, Andrea Alexander, Eryn Elliott and her husband Bob; and his grandchildren, Alexandra Ayres, J. Deane Ayres, Hannah Elliott and Sean Elliott, along with nieces and nephews.
Tommy’s entertaining spirit will be greatly missed.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 27th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
