Tom "Butch" Harpster, III was born on the 16th day of June 1948 in Houston, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, the 10th of August 2016 at the age of 68. He is preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Tom Levi Harpster, Jr. Butch is survived by his wife Sheryl, his daughter Rachel "Scooter" Farris and her husband Daniel and their daughter Ava. He is survived by his stepdaughters Jaime and Kim Chitty and their children Kimree and Hunter Wayne Ellis, and Lilly, Lyric, and Jayle Chitty. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Harpster and his children Bryan, Jason, and Jo; sister Kay Maynor and her husband James and her daughter Karlyn; and sister Jina Chauvin and her husband Aaron and a number of great nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Butch was in the US Marine Corps. and served in Vietnam. He was a rifle sharpshooter and sergeant in the 1st Marine Div. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Butch was a crane and rigging operator for Tom L. Harpster Company and had recently retired from McRay Crane & Rigging. He grew up working at the family business with his grandfather and father; he loved the crane business.
The viewing will be at Heights Funeral Home on Sunday, August 14th from 5:00 - 8:00 in the evening. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Houston National Cemetery on Monday, August 15th promptly at 12:45 in the afternoon. Flowers may be sent for the viewing at Heights Funeral Home.
