Thomas Dimitrious Wood

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He attended Presbyterian School from Pre-K through Grade 7, and then attended St. Stephens Episcopal School in Austin. Thomas was a creative writer and artist, and enjoyed and did well with mathematics. Many knew Thomas as an outstanding athlete, whose zest and competitive spirit on the baseball, football, and soccer fields, on the basketball court, and on the track were notable, and brought much joy to him and to his parents, siblings and grandparents. Thomas played in the West University Little League and the West University Soccer Club. A true sports fan, he enjoyed watching ESPN from a very young age!

Thomas enjoyed ski trips with his family and foreign travel with his immediate and extended families, and Aggie Football games at Kyle Field. Thomas also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a fine bird hunter and often conquered the sporting clays course. A big fan of Legos, he requested a Spring Break trip to Legoland, which he and his family enjoyed greatly. He looked forward to his summer camp experiences at Camp Balcones Springs, which he attended for many years.

Thomas appreciated a variety of music and enjoyed attending the Austin City Limits festival with his friends. His clever humor entertained his family and friends. He was so happy when he got his driver's license and was able to drive to Austin to see his beloved friends there. He had learned to drive on the Gator at his family place in Brenham, as did many of his childhood friends.

Thomas loved food, especially the special dishes prepared by his grandmothers, including spanakopita. He also loved sushi, and insisted on Tokyohana for every birthday and special occasions. And he loved guacamole, chips and limes!

Thomas is survived by his parents, Willie and Gail Graves Wood of Houston; his sister, Julia Campbell Wood and brother, William Nicholas Wood, both of Houston; his maternal grandparents, Sammie (Bo) and Tom E. Graves (Dandeen) of Houston; his paternal grandparents, Angie Wood Wilson (Ala) and Michael J. Wilson (Papa Mike) of Sugarland; great uncle, William Campbell Gresham of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, great uncle Jimmy Constantino Manassakis of Richmond; great uncle and aunt, Fabio and Cory Mejia of Livingston; great uncle and aunt, Walker and Beverley Thurmon of Shreveport, Louisianna; Aunts Cindy Wood of Austin, and Angie Marie Wood of Sugarland; Uncles Bill Wood of Austin, Tom Graves III of Memphis, Tennessee, Ed Russell of Austin, and Tony Smith of Dallas; cousins, Sunnie Marie Russell and Max Wood of Austin; and many second cousins. He is also survived by honorary aunt, Eileen Wilson and uncle, Richard Wilson of Houston.

The family wishes to thank and praise all of Thomas' friends over the years and their parents who loved Thomas and his great spirit. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 13th of March, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 14th of March, at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street in Houston, where the Rev. John Crantz is to officiate.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby Fellowship Hall.

For those wishing to attend, the interment is to follow via escorted cortege at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
