Thomas Harold Weir, 82, completed his journey on earth Sunday morning, February 18, 2018. He was born August 15, 1935 in Hartford, Arkansas. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce Weir, two daughters Mary Jane and Sharon Elaine, two granddaughters Faryn and Alyssa, and two great granddaughters Vivica and Vivianna.
God was always first in Tom’s life. He was taken to Hartford’s Methodist church when he was two weeks old and remained a Methodist his entire life. He even met Joyce at a Methodist church. Tom was president of Methodist Youth Fellowship, served on the administrative board of every Methodist church he attended as an adult, was an usher, began two United Methodist Men’s organizations and was lovingly referred to as the ‘godfather’ of Methodist Men. He renewed his faith on the Walk to Emmaus, and was a delegate to Texas Annual Conference for First Methodist Houston, an honor he took seriously for the several years he served. His family was the most important thing to him on this earth. He romped with the girls when they were young, taught them how to skip rocks on the creeks, fish, and ride their bikes. We enjoyed many camping trips, and especially loved the ones to the national parks and the Indian ruins in the West. Christmas, Easter, and Halloween were his favorite times of the year, partly because he could enjoy the gift giving, the egg hunts, and trick or treating with the daughters, then the granddaughters, and the great granddaughters. He loved gardening and he shared many tomatoes, lemons, apples, okra, and muscadine grapes with friends throughout the years. He was a collector of novelty clocks, coins, shells, rocks, and Tom was a big Arkansas Razorback fan his entire life.
The family will greet friends between 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Forest Park Lawndale followed by the funeral service at 2:00 in the Colonial Chapel. The Reverend Ann Spears will officiate.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided to Tom by the staffs of Houston Extended Care, and Hospice +. Daniela, Anne, Gabby, Jenna, Veronica, Ester, Jasmine, and all of the staff will be remembered for their kindness throughout his stay with them.
Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
