Tom was born in Houston, Texas on September 10, 1932 to Oscar and Dominic Sicola. The youngest of 7 children, Tom was energetic and eager to learn. He attended Reagan High School, married at 20, and had a daughter, Mary, son, Tom 13 months later, and daughter, Vicki 8 years later.
Tom joined the army, stationed in New Ulm Germany for two years. Being a devoted family man, his young family joined him in Germany, and he achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. Upon their return to Houston he joined the Houston Fire Department for 20 years; during that time he owned a used car business and real estate agency and earned his broker’s license. Once retired, Tom opened a successful Travel Agency with his sister-in-law, Josie Marie Sicola, enabling him to travel the world and visit many places most people only dream about.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Catherine Norton Sicola; parents, Oscar and Dominic Sicola; brothers, Charles, Tony and Johnnie Sicola; and sisters, Sadie Davenport and Esther Miller.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 26 years, Laurita Sicola, whom he adored and who cared for him during his illness; daughter, Mary D. Sicola; son, Tom Sicola Jr. and wife Brenda; daughter Vicki Sicola and husband Charles Botkin; grandson, Stephen Sicola; granddaughter, Victoria McMahon and husband Hagan; and great-grandchildren, Rowan and Ethan Sicola; sister, Tresa Sicola; step children, Brett Westphal and wife Robin, Charles Westphal and wife Connie, and Gina Bohreer and husband David; and seven grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Club, $club, Thursday Club, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Assembly 1094.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to everyone at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Hospice, Ron Watt and Lolli Esquivel for all of their assistance and help. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm, with a rosary at 7pm, Friday, June 17, 2016 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, Houston 77018. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Saturday, at St. Rose of Lima, with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at Houston National Cemetery.
