He was a much-loved father, brother, grandfather (Papa), great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him in this life.
T.J. was born November 25, 1926, in Bivins, Texas, near Texarkana, to Linnie Poe Moore and George Walker Moore. He graduated from Kildare High School at the age of 16, and then joined the United States Navy serving in World War II as a Radioman 3rd class on a ship called a “Sub-Chaser.” As the ship was of the, now defunct “Splinter Class,” it was of the last group of military vessels to be made of 100% wood. The call sign for the ship was “Park Bench.”
After being Honorably Discharged, T.J. went on a blind date, and later that evening, told his brother that he had met the woman he was going to marry. The prophesy was true, and he and Jean Darnell were married on June 17, 1950.
He later graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in business, and he was also a Mason and lifetime member of Pasadena Lodge #1155 for 61 years.
T.J. is survived by his brother, Damon Moore and his wife, Mary; a son, Thomas Jerry, Jr., and his wife Debbie; a daughter, Sheryl Moore Smith and her husband Bobby; and his younger son, John Terry Moore, and brother-in-law, Larry Darnell and his wife, Marion.
He also leaves grandchildren: Thomas Jerry, III; Jeremy Daniel and his wife Kristina; Samuel Darnell and his wife Andrea; Candice Hyman and her husband Aaron; Matthew Walton; Samantha Puno and her husband Chris, John Terry Moore, Jr. and fiancée Heather.
Great-grandchildren: Trent, Zion, Kya, and Devin Moore, Blake Whichard, Makenzie McCormick, Jackie Sepulveda, Tyler Dunn, and Samara Puno.
T.J. also leaves one great-great-granddaughter, Ember-Jean Marie Moore.
He leaves numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean; his mother, Linnie; father, George; sister, Jean; and granddaughter, Raychill.
T.J.’s children would like to express much gratitude and love to Uncle Damon and Aunt Mary for their help with our father, as he was fading in these past few years. Their help was invaluable.
After the grave-side service, please come to Sheryl and Bobby’s house for a meal. The address is 204 S. Avenue H in Humble just behind the Methodist Church.
