Born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 20, 1931, Tom Jr. was the younger of two children born to Thomas Franklin Miller Sr. and Mary Thomas Mills Miller. Tom Jr. married his High School sweetheart and love of his life, Alice Anne O'Hara Miller on June 6, 1952. After graduating from Reagan High School, Tom Jr. attended the University of Houston where he performed for the mighty Cougar Band. While enrolled in college, Tom Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves and every summer he attended Navy Officer Candidate School. He was put into active duty upon his graduation at U of H. He was stationed at a naval base in Panama and proudly served his country until 1954. He spent the rest of his working days building parts of residential Houston with his father and running and operating his family's business, Spring Branch Hardware.
Tom Jr. was a quiet man of few words to most, but with his inner circle of family he was tenderhearted, playful and quite the comedian. He had a unique sense of humor with a joke repertoire that included endless hilarious one-liners. He will definitely be remembered for his passion of all things foods, construction, and history; molding him into the wealth of knowledge he was today.
Tom Jr. will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Anne; his three sons, Frank III, Michael (wife Tina), Mark (wife Mariel); along with his nine grandchildren; James, Alison, Rachel, Allie, Kirby, Nolan, Madison, Erin and Kendall; and sister, Elizabeth Strunk. Tom Jr. was a soft and gentle soul who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family and wonderful friends.
The family received friends on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston. Funeral service were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the chapel at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood, also in Houston.
