Thomas D. Dopler, Jr. of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on January 30, 2013, of a massive coronary. He was born in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph's Hospital on March 11, 1941, to Mary Wolff Dopler and Thomas D. Dopler, Sr. He was a former Houston resident where he had a forty year career in the oil and gas business as a petroleum-landman/attorney. He retired in 2007 from Anadarko Petroleum and moved to Georgetown to be near his family. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, receiving a BA in 1964 and a Juris Doctorate in 1967. He was honored to have served his country as a Captain in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged in 1969 after having been awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Jeri Howell Dopler, and two daughters: Jennifer Dopler Brinkman and husband, Scott, of Austin; Suzannah Dopler Shoales and husband, Jason, of Georgetown. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren: Georgia and Emma Brinkman of Austin; Madelyn, Thomas and Mary Rose Shoales of Georgetown. He also leaves to mourn his passing, his sister, Annette Dopler Howell, and her husband, Richard T. Howell, of Houston and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was a very principled man who lived his life following a code of strong ethics. He was a loyal friend. He recognized family members and friends in need and did what he could to offer help. His greatest achievement in life, however, was the role he served as patriarch of his beloved family. He was the Rock – the one to whom all could turn. He will also be remembered for his great love of the white, sandy beaches of Gulf Coast Florida where his entire family vacationed with him for forty years and affectionately referred to him as “Captain Tom”...the proverbial “Beach Bum”. He will be truly missed, but his memory will be everlasting.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, the fourth of February at 10:30 AM, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc, Houston, TX 77024 with Rev. John Cahoon as Celebrant and Deacon Don Bradley assisting. The following family members and business associates will serve as pall bearers: Richard T. Howell, Richard T. Howell, Jr., W. Scott Brinkman, Jason Shoales, John Branch, Michael Brennan, Dennis Fruge and Jack Anderson. A private Rite of Committal Service will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
