We announce the passing of Thomas John Devore Sr., who peacefully departed from this world on September 11, 2023.
Thomas, known to many as Tom, lived a life dedicated to God, his family, and his career. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cicely Helen Phillips Devore of Magnolia, TX. Cicely stood by his side during their 43 years of marriage.
His children and their spouses, who carry forward his legacy of love and compassion, include Elizabeth Devore of Magnolia, TX; Thomas Jr. and Devin Devore of Magnolia, TX; Madeline and Mark Brown of Magnolia, TX; Mary Helen and Dylan Jobe of Magnolia, TX; Hugh John III and Karissa Devore of Arvada, CO; Cicely Devore of Houston, TX and Michael John Devore of Magnolia, TX. His cherished grandchildren, Lillian and Jack Arbaugh, Beaux Dean, Patrick, Hugh, and Howard Devore, Anastasia, Izekeil, and Olivia Brown, Natalie, Edrina, Abigail, and Eleanor Jobe, and Hugh John Devore IV filled his life with laughter and happiness.
He is also survived by his loving sisters and their spouses, Madeline and Tom Weber of Ft. Myers, FL, Noreen Haas and Tom Dailey of Ft. Myers, and Marie Rossi of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
From 1972-1976, Tom attended The University of Notre Dame. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing from Mendoza School of Business. Tom's love for Notre Dame ran deep. He was accepted on an academic scholarship and played football for the Irish until he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma his freshman year; despite the challenges he faced, his time at Notre Dame left an indelible mark on him, instilling values of perseverance and determination that would define his life's journey.
Tom cherished spending time outdoors, which brought him peace and happiness throughout his life. He enjoyed golfing and hunting. He enjoyed watching and feeding the wildlife on their property, caring for their farm animals, and sitting on the back porch enjoying the home he and Cicely built for their family. His love for his family and friends was most prominent. He was the most giving, loving, and understanding man when it came to his family and lifelong friendships.
Most importantly, Tom dedicated his life to God, and his faith in Christ was integral to who he was. His unwavering commitment to his faith was a guiding light for his family and friends. Tom's favorite color was blue. He had a deep passion for math and logic and found beauty in its complexities. His favorite song was "Kaw-Liga" by Hank Williams. He also loved any music that resonated with his love for classic tunes and timeless stories.
Tom was a renowned and successful businessman. Since 2004, Tom has been a co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Griffin Trade Group, a well-known Houston-based carbon steel plate company. His brilliant mind and ability to track the market led to the company's growth and development. His leadership and dedication played a pivotal role in the company's success, which impacted the industry.
Tom's family is blessed and grateful for the many wonderful years spent with him. Tom's impact on so many people's lives is truly unique. He was a role model and inspiration, in so many ways, to so many different people during his lifetime and his memory will continue to create inspiration in the years to come. He was one of a kind, and he will be missed dearly by so many.
