Retired Staff Sergeant Theodore Roosevelt Hatchett (Ted) was born July 24, 1959, in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Frank Edmond Hatchett Sr. and Elsie Wilson Hatchett. He was the youngest of three brothers and seven sisters. On June 1, 2024, a very dedicated, full and well-lived life came to a peaceful close when God called Ted home to rest.
Ted was baptized at New Dora Baptist Church in North Little Rock where he sang in the choir, served on the Junior Usher Board and continued his generous support of the church and McAlmont Community throughout his life.
He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1977 and went on to attend Philander Smith College. In 1978, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for 20 years as a military police officer and fought in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. Ted was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1987 and was the recipient of multiple service awards including the prestigious Meritorious Service Award. During his career he served in Germany, Korea, Cuba, Kuwait and the United States. He retired at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas in 1998.
Known as a devoted father, family member and friend, SSG Theodore Roosevelt Hatchett's life exemplified the attributes of a good soldier. He was honorable, disciplined, generous and dedicated to the mission at hand. One of his most important missions was gaining custody of his 7-year-old autistic son, Theo, and being his primary caregiver for 28 years. Ted was very active and kept in shape, often taking Theo to the gym to exercise, shoot baskets and compete in the Special Olympics in which Ted was featured in the San Antonio Express News for his unique contributions to the Special Olympics.
Staff Sergeant Hatchett was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie Hatchett; four sisters: Katherine Hatchett-Ford, Florence Hatchett-Rollins, Frankie Hatchett-Ray and Linda Hatchett; and one brother, William Hatchett, Esq.
Ted will be forever in the hearts of the loved ones he leaves to cherish every memory: three daughters: Chrystal Hatchett Stubbs (married to Charles) of Houston, TX; Niani Hatchett, of Baltimore, MD and Nyasha Hatchett, of San Antonio, TX; two sons: Theodore Maxwell Hatchett, of Houston, TX and Noah Hatchett, of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Avery Parkins, Chauncy Stubbs and Khairi Gourley; three sisters: Dr. Minnie Hatchett and Gwendolyn Hatchett, both of Little Rock, AR and Elsie McCormick of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Frank E. Hatchett, Jr, Addison, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends.

A celebration of life for Theodore will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal with military honors will occur Friday, July 26, 2024 from 1:15 PM to 1:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. A repast will occur Friday, July 26, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at CrossingPoint Christian Church, 3304 Dwayne Rd, Rosharon, TX 77583.
