Terry Tamon Smith, age 91, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 in Houston. He was born September 8, 1932 in Rosenberg, Texas to Vernon Cecil Smith and Lula Clarenda Moritz. He grew up in Houston with his two brothers and three sisters and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1950. His father worked at Gulf Oil Corp where Terry became interested in the oil and gas industry. He began his engineering studies at Rice University and obtained a Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Texas Austin in 1955.
He married Joanne Wallace in 1955 in Houston, and they celebrated 43 years together before her sudden passing. They had two daughters Karen and Kathy. He later married Bobbie Wallace and enjoyed 20 years together before her passing.
Working in the oil patch was Terry’s favorite job. He started his career at Houston Oil Company and worked for many oil companies in Corpus Christi and Dallas before starting his own company KCM Management, Inc. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Engineers Club of Dallas.
Terry had many interests; history, geology, sports, the Bible, and ballroom dancing. He loved collecting rocks, maps, antiques, and coins.
Terry was an active member in the Southern Baptist church for 80 years. He was ordained as a Deacon by the Second Baptist Church Houston in 2006.
Terry is survived by his two daughters Karen King (Leo) and Kathy Tucci (Jeff); grandchildren Amy and Ashley King, Emily Schoelzel, Jackie, Julie, and Jason Tucci; his extended family; and his partner Dorothy Baber.
Described by many as the sweetest man they ever knew, Terry will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 23, at 1:00 PM at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Dr, Houston 77057.
