A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Davis held a B.S and M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University, and served on the OSU Foundation’s Board of Governors. He also received the Distinguished Alumni Award and was elected to the university’s Engineering Hall of Fame. Mr. Davis was also a graduate of the University of Texas Executive Management Program. He was a registered Professional Engineer in both Texas and Oklahoma.
Mr. Davis retired in 2000 after 35 years with Conoco Inc., the last 18 years in senior executive management positions. He was also a corporate Vice President of DuPont from 1986 to 1999 when DuPont was Conoco’s parent corporation.
Mr. Davis held the position of President for Exploration Production for International Operations in Africa, Mid-East, and Asia-Pacific areas, including all upstream new venture operations for Conoco worldwide including establishing new operations in Vietnam, Cambodia, Syria, Singapore, and Indonesia from 1997 to 2000.
He also held the position of President for Upstream North America with responsibility for exploration, production, natural gas, gas products, pipelines, gas processing operations, business development, commercial, legal, business, and regulatory activities at Conoco. He was also in charge of all natural gas and LPG marketing, supply, and distribution for both Conoco and DuPont from 1991 to 1997.
Mr. Davis also served as Vice President of Natural Gas and Gas Products with oversight responsibility of all Conoco and DuPont worldwide natural gas, LNG, and LPG operations including primary responsibility for all gas processing, pipelines, supply, marketing, and distribution in the U.S., Canada, and Trinidad from 1982 to 1991.
Mr. Davis was active in several professional organizations. Mr. Davis served as Chairman of Training and Development for the American Petroleum Institute, serving on API’s General Committee, and the Operating Committee for Exploration and Production. He also served as the Chairman of the Liquified Hydrocarbon Gas Committee. Over his career, he served on the Board of Directors of the Natural Gas Supply Association, National Offshore Industry Committee, U.S. Oil and Gas Association, Southwest Research Institute, a $200 million per year research organization administered by the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, serving as Board Chairman from 1994 to 1996. He was an active member of the Living Word Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Sheila Davis, known to their grandchildren as GG; his children Teddy Davis, Crystal Davis-Schabach, Terry Davis, Shyla Harvey and Roy Harvey II. He is also survived by his mother, Alma Davis; and his sister, Karen Ray. His surviving grandchildren, who referred to him as Pa-Paw, are Nichole Poppell, Christian Bryant, Ella Bryant and Isla Harvey. He is also survived by nephews Jeff Ray and Doug Ray; and three great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Thelmer Davis; two grandchildren: Christopher Schabach and Shy Schabach; brother-in-law Donald Ray; and nephew Lindsay Lee Ray.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11:00 am at Living Word Church of the Nazarene, 16607 Clay Road, Houston, Texas 77084. Interment will be at Denison Cemetery, Idabel, Oklahoma.
