Sylvia Marie Jones Jordan was born November 11, 1951 in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the union of Samuel H. Jones, Junior and Elaine Laverne Jones. She was affectionately known as "Sylvie" by her friends and family. Sylvia departed this life on March 26, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Sylvia was the sixth of thirteen children. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband Fines Jordan, her son Andre L. Jones, two sisters Laverne Jones and Beverly Jones Jackson, two brothers Alvin Jones and Rodney Jones.
Sylvia was formally educated in both the Saint Louis Parochial School (elementary) and Saint Louis Public School systems (high school). In 1972 Sylvia began working at the United States Postal Service as a clerk for 10 years in Saint Louis, Missouri. Upon moving to Los Angeles, California in 1983, Sylvia attended Sierra Business College where she studied Business Administration focusing on Accounting. She worked as an accounts payable and data processing clerk at businesses such as Sunrider Food Company, Security Pacific National Bank and the Nissan Corporation. In 2007 Sylvia graduated from Remington College in Houston, Texas as a Certified Registered Medical Assistant, where she was gainfully employed at My Healthy Access Clinic.
Sylvia accepted Christ at an early age and attended Saint Marks Catholic Church in Saint Louis, Missouri.
While living in California Sylva met Fines R. Jordan, where they later married on December 4, 2001 in Houston, Texas and resided to her untimely transition.
Sylvia had a very laid back and cool spirited personality. She was an avid music lover that ranged from the 1970's thru the 2000's. Every week in Saint Louis, Missouri she would go to the Peaches Music Store to obtain the latest albums from groups and vocalists such as the Isley Brothers, Earth Wind and Fire, the Parliaments, Commodores, Ohio Players, Evelyn "Champagne" King and Marvin Gaye. Also, she enjoyed cooking and getting together with her family, while dancing and reflecting on old memories with everyone. Lastly, Sylvia loved a clean home, she was always mopping, wiping and sweeping, her father affectionately called her "Mopping Momma".
Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory a daughter: LaJuanna (Lenel) Jones-Sulton; six sisters, Kathryn Iverson, Janice Woods, Renay Jones Perry, Theresa Jones of Saint Louis, Missouri, Loretta (Allen) Tuggle of Warner Robins, Georgia and Karen Jones Roberts of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Samuel (Kim) Jones, III of Saint Louis, Missouri and Leslie Jones of Long Beach, California; one brother-in-law Carl Jackson of Kansas City, Missouri; two aunts LaDoris Shields of Houston, Texas and Carolyn Johnson of Merrillville, Indiana; one uncle Ronald Larkin, Senior of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren David L. Shelton, Junior and Christian N. Sulton; four very close friends Patricia Bradford (Lil Pat), Anita Patterson, Carol Willhite (Lil Carol) and Celestine Moore and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
