Susie excelled in school and ultimately received her high school diploma from Barbara Jordan Senior High School in 2005. She continued her education at North Harris Community College where she earned her Vocational Nursing License in 2013. Susie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member. Susie transitioned from this life on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
In February of 2014 Susie was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Amor Christian Powell a.k.a. Mo, who was her mother’s pride and joy. Susie took pride in being a dedicated mother to Amor and loved her unconditionally. She was a kindhearted aunt as well to Jayden, Jada, Jaquae, and Amara.
Susie was an ambitious, determined entrepreneur who continuously focused on success. She was the creator and owner of Black Powell Candles. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, an organization based on faith and biblical teachings.
Susie will be remembered for her beautiful brown eyes, infectious laugh and feisty personality. Susie enjoyed watching crime shows, spending time with cousins, family and close friends. She loved and respected her aunts and uncles.
Susie is survived by her mother Sandra Nelson-Okwa; daughter, Amor Powell; brother Jamarrah Okwa; sister Joycelyn Harris, along with nine other siblings and a host of extended family members who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father Ray Lane Powell and brother Corey Spencer Powell.
