Susie Ben Wong Gee was born on July 21, 1932 in Rosedale, MS. The Lord called her home on September 8, 2021 to reunite with her husband, David Gee; her son, Damon Ben Gee; her parents, Ben Kee Wong and Susie Chung Wong; and all of her siblings.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Susan Denise Gee, her son David Gee Jr., his wife, Carol, and their children, Noah, Amelia, Joshua and Jacob. She is also survived by sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Gee Young, Marguerite Gee Royse, Mamie Gee Mar, Gloria Chua Gee, Celia Alabastro Gee and numerous Gee and Wong family nieces and nephews.
Susie moved from Rosedale, MS to Houston as a fifteen-year-old teenager. She met her husband David shortly after arriving, and they began a courtship under the watchful eye of her two older brothers and their wives. They married in 1955, after David was discharged from the U.S. Army. They worked side-by-side in their grocery business until the late seventies. Before David’s death in 1980, they would embark on a new business venture and opened the first video store in Houston. Susie was able to use her artistic skills in the new business, painting billboards and creating signage for the retail store.
Susie was gifted with creativity. She added her unique style to every craft she pursued, whether it be sewing gowns, crocheting, beading or folding paper money into different shapes. Many were lucky recipients of her heart-shape folded dollar bills tucked in to “hong bao” red envelopes. On special occasions, she would create unique and detailed money trees to signify a special event. Her lovingly handmade gifts will be treasured for many years to come.
The pride and joy in Susie’s recent years were most assuredly her four grandchildren- Noah, Amelia, Joshua and Jacob. When meeting friends, after the usual pleasantries, Susie would pull out her iPhone to show her photos of her grandchildren and tell stories of their latest antics and accomplishments. She was the ultimate proud “Popo”.
"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven; A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to reap what is planted." Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
Out of an abundance of caution, the family regrets there will not be an in-person visitation or funeral service. Susie will be memorialized at Forest Park Lawndale in a private family ceremony.
