Susan Claire Delpesce Elliott passed away March 29, 2022 with her family at her side. She was born and raised in Houston. She was a girl scout, attended Lamar High School, and after high school worked for Prudential Insurance. She was part of a large loving family, and frequent family gatherings and celebrations kept the extended family close. She adored and stayed in touch with her New Orleans cousins.
She met the love of her life Harry Elliott on a blind date, and shortly after they were married. They had two beautiful daughters, Stacey Lynn and Kristy Ann. Susy enjoyed doing things together with her daughters. When Stacey was about 6 years old, there was a group of girls her age that wanted to be in the girl scouts, but there was no troop nearby. Susy started a troop for those girls, and went on to be troop leader for both Stacey and Kristy. Susy continued to be active in the girl scouts even after the girls moved on to other things.
When the girls got older Susy started working. She worked for many years at the clothing store Women’s World, which became Fitting Image, in the Deerbrook mall. Then she moved on to work many years for Chase Bank. She took pride in being handy around the office. If any of the clothing racks or money drawers did not work properly, she took her tools to work and fixed them.
She was an excellent seamstress and very crafty. She made her own maternity clothes, and clothes for her girls when they were growing up. She made the bridesmaid dresses for Kristy’s wedding, as well as a custom blue tule skirt for Kristy to wear under her wedding dress. After she lost Harry, Susy and her sister Sandy took up quilting and making jewelry together.
Kristy and her husband Josh had two beautiful children together, Rhys and Alyssa. When they got transferred to the valley, Susy made regular trips down to be together with them. During the pandemic she was a part time home school teacher for the kids.
After the tragic loss of Harry and Kristy, Susy and Stacey became even closer. They lived together, worked on hobbies and projects together, and supported each other.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Thomas Louis Delpesce Jr. and Shirley Rose Heinze Delpesce, her husband Harry Elliott, and her daughter Kristy Elliott Hansen. She is survived by her daughter Stacey and partner Will. She is survived by her son-in-law Josh, and her two grandchildren Rhys and Aly, who have formed a new loving, blended family with Donna, Keller and Greyson. She is also survived by her older sister, Sandy Coker and husband Ray and her younger brother Scott Delpesce, as well as nieces, nephews, one aunt, and many, many cousins and friends.
The services will be at Brookside funeral home and cemetery. The visitation will be Tuesday April 5 from 6-9pm. The funeral service will be Wednesday April 6 at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Girls Scouts of America.
Family and friends are encouraged to share pictures and memories on the Brookside website, as well as bring a picture of their favorite memory with Susy to be placed in the casket with her.
