With heavy hearts and mixed emotions, the family bid their fond farewell to a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose total devotion to their care were both her mission in life and the greatest joy. While everyone in the family is sad that she is no longer with us, we are also relieved that she is no longer plagued by a disease that so cruelly robbed her of her memory and wit for almost two decades.
Survivors include her children, sons William Wai Lun Wong and his wife Susannah, Bryan Wai Keung Wong and his wife Florence, all of Houston, and Wilfred Wai Cheong Wong and his wife Lifen of Long Island, New York; daughter, Shirley Lai Chun Wong of Hong Kong; Linda Sanford and her husband Doug of Fairfield, Texas, and Pattie Suttle of Monte Vista, Colorado; grandchildren, Jimmy K. K. Chau and his wife Christine Lin, and Cleo Y. S. Chau and her husband Charles Chan of Hong Kong; Christina Wong, Princeton Wong and his wife Mimi Trinh, Gabriel Wong of Houston; Nicole C. P. Chan of Hong Kong; Jasmine Wong of Long Island, New York; Carrie Sanford of Plano, Texas; Daryl Sanford and his wife Molly of Atlanta, Georgia; Daniel Sanford of Plano, Texas; Melinda Hunzeker of Monte Vista; Drew Suttle and his wife Bre of Lakewood, Colorado and Blake Suttle of Westminster, Colorado; great-grandchildren Ianna Chau of Hong Kong, Kingston Wong of Houston; Frances, Posey and Andrew Sanford of Atlanta; Graham, Grayson and Teagan of Monte Vista; and numerous others whom she considered grandchildren and kin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sui Chuen Wong; her oldest daughter, Lai Ying Wong of Hong Kong; her brother Yim Ching Ng of Singapore, and Walter and Verta Bergmann of Boerne, Texas, who adopted her oldest son, William (Bill) as their own when he came to study at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas in 1969.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from noon until one o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 22nd of May 2019 at in the Jasek Chapel of Geo H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where a celebration of her life will commence at one o’clock, led by Rogene Gee Calvert.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a visitation in the adjacent grand foyer.
Interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
Honored to serve as casket bearers during the services are Princeton and Gabriel Wong; Hung, Hau and Hoang Pham, Carrie Sanford, Daniel Sanford and Johnny Tran.
