Sue Ellen Pegues passed away peacefully in the arms of family and friends on April 15, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on March 2, 1943 in Houston, she was the daughter of Wyatt Garrett and Hazel Johnson Garrett.
Sue is survived by her husband of 37 years, Alex Pegues of Houston, her son Kelly Allen of Houston, her stepchildren Chris and Jon Leis of Dickinson, Linda and Mike Campbell of Houston, and Lex and Pam Pegues of New Braunfels; her sister Wyanette Bowling of Tomball; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who she adored having come visit. She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Garrett and their parents.
Sue spent her youth between the Heights in Houston and Tomball. She graduated from Tomball High School and later worked as a loan officer for a mortgage company.
Sue loved the outdoors and traveling with her “Baby”, Alex, but not so much swimming laps. She was an avid skier (water and snow), loved roller blading and hiking with Baby, and especially loved going to the beach where she was the “Sand Dollar Queen”, as evidenced by the huge containers of sand dollars at home. They also loved taking their dogs to Galveston over the years to run the beaches and waves.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home, 1200 W 34th Street in Houston on Friday, April 26th at noon, with a reception following. The family is asking attendees to wear bright colors if you like, especially parrot, turtle, or other colorful colors, to honor Sue and her love for both.
