Steven Blake Toon unexpectedly passed away on October 22, 2021. Steve was an incredible, loving and passionate man to all who had the privilege to know him. Born to Harvey and Freda Toon, he is survived by his wife Cheryl Baker Toon, 3 incredible children who he couldn’t be more proud of- Christopher Blake (18 yrs), Lexy Gayle (15 yrs), and Leah Rachel (15 yrs); his parents Harvey and Freda Toon; sister Kim and husband Don Ross; Cheryl's parents, Carlton and Lauretta Baker. He is also survived by many loving aunts and uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews and a great nephew. He is preceded in death by his paternal grand parents, Manning and Doris Toon and maternal grandparents, Wayne and Vivian Wines. Also, Lexy and Leah’s triplet who he was so eager to meet when he got to heaven!
Steve was born in Dallas, Texas on December 17, 1963 but grew up in the Houston area where he spent all of his lower educational years in CY Fair ISD schools until he moved to Waco to attend Baylor University. He graduated with a bachelors degree in Communications and Journalism and has boasted a successful career writing for trade magazines, editing books, and most recently, has worked as the Editor and chief for Hart Energy’s Oil and Gas Investor Magazine where he not only won awards for individual pieces but was often the face of the Oil and gas conferences seen interviewing CEOs on stage.
Before settling down, Steve found his love for travel using his time between jobs to backpack through China and South America. He wrote about his travels and has left an amazing journal serving as a legacy to his family and friends.
Personally, family was the most important part of Steve’s life. He met his wife Cheryl and married in 1999. After nearly 23 years of marriage, his wife Cheryl can say, without a doubt, that Steve was a man who fiercely loved his family. He was a man who wrote his wife poetry, wooed her with flowers, always held open the car doors, and always held her hand; their connection and bond was inseparable. Steve was also seen at every school function supporting his beloved children whom he was so proud of through- theater (Lexy), band (Blake, Leah), dance, track, hurdles (Lexy), and pole vault (Leah) in order to take in every fleeting moment of our children moving to their passages to adulthood. He was also involved in Boy Scouts and so proud of Blake achieving the Eagle rank.
His extended family was a passion of his; past, present and future generations. He spent countless hours tracking the family history and discovering his connections to the past. He was never without his camera. Making sure every moment was documented, not just for now but for our future generations.
He was a man after God’s own heart. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age and built a life of serving others in all he did. His one life long goal and one of his greatest joys was to see his children come to know the Lord and was able to witness, enjoy, continue to minister and fellowship with them until his passing.
We are more than confident, we will see him again.
