Steven Joseph Goyette, age 71, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Born in Buffalo New York to Alice Myrtle Wood-Goyette and Gordon Leigh Goyette, Steven was raised in Syracuse New York with siblings; Donna, Diane, Greg, Barb, Nance and Carla.
He was a graduate of West Genesse High School in Syracuse, Class of 1970. The early years of his collegiate career were interrupted by his draft into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he gallantly fought and served.
Upon his return from Vietnam, Steve studied at State University of New York in Morrisville, where he pursued and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism Technology, graduating in 1976. After which, he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, earning a degree in Radio Television, and Film as part of the Class of 1978. His collegiate studies were a springboard to his life long journey through media production, an industry he loved and served whole heartedly.
Desiring to live somewhere he didn’t have to shovel snow, he headed south. Upon visiting Texas, he was attracted to the rich music and arts culture and strong sense of community, and that’s where he built his family and life.
Steve’s gifts and talents were highlighted in his work and relationships. For thirty-one years, from 1983 to 2014, he was a key part of South Coast Film and Video, as a Production Manager and the wearer of countless hats through the years. Some may argue his most important hat in life was that of a comedian. After over three decades in private sector production, life then led him into education from thence forth, where he served as Senior Video Producer at Rice University for a time and finally onto Texas Southern University in 2017. As TV Studio Manager and Adjunct Professor, Steve was affectionately committed to this job. He endearingly enjoyed watching his students learn and grow. Instrumental in overseeing the new studio take form after several years in the making, he proudly delighted in its recent completion. He was inspirational to the next generation and impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues.
Steve had a special way of connecting with each and every person he crossed paths with. Whether family, friend, student, co-worker or acquaintance, all remember and recount his wit and humor. Steve undoubtedly brought such joy and fun to life, never being short of jokes. Photography and genealogy were two of his passions, and the fruits of his hands in those pursuits are gifts for all to continue to enjoy.
He leaves behind his wife of 33 years Betta L. Goyette and their two sons Joshua Gordon Goyette and Aaron Joseph Goyette, as well as step-daughters Sabrina Harden and Heather Hamilton and their children, his five beloved siblings and a host of nieces and nephews.
It was Steve’s desire to have his ashes scattered in memorable places by friends and family.
There will be no funeral services held.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brookside-funeralhome-cypresscreek.com for the Goyette family.
