Steven Wayne Brumfield of Tomball, TX passed away on the early morning of October 15, 2023 where he resided with his wife, Terri, of 41 years. After a long four year battle with AML, he could no longer fight this horrible disease. Steve was born on February 18, 1959 at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA to James Paul Brumfield and Fumiko Oya Brumfield who have both preceded him in death.
Steve is survived by his wife Teresa (Terri) Brumfield, his daughter Natalie Giangola of Washington, his son, John Brumfield of Spring, TX and wife Ashley. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kaden Brumfield, Kolter Brumfield and Gwendolynn Nutter. He would want each of you to know how much he loved you.
Steve leaves behind two sisters Angela Haynes of Minden, LA, Laura Barnes and husband Jack of Shreveport, LA. and one brother, Dudley Brumfield and wife Kimberly of Baton Rouge, LA. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews from both sides of the family, his father in law, Richard Reeves and brother in laws and sister in laws. He leaves behind so many who are going to miss his sense of humor, his loving heart and his overall kindness.
Steve proudly served in the USAF for almost 22 years. He retired from the military in 2005 as a MSgt. After retirement, he went on to teach ROTC at Klein Oak high school for a number of years. Some great memories were made while teaching. He continued to keep in touch with so many of his students. I can only hope they know how important they were to him.
No one could ever doubt he loved his country but there are things he always loved more. He loved our God and his family above all. Steve’s wish for his family and friends would be for them to love and follow God as he enjoyed doing. The past few years proved difficult for him to make it to worship services but he was still able to join in through livestreaming. God was important to him and he tried to show this in his life.
The Brumfield family would like to give a special thank you to Ashley Valdivia. Without her selfless act of being his donor, we would not have had the past two extra years with Steve. Because of her love for a total stranger, she gave him a fighting chance. Unfortunately, AML is an ugly disease and he lost the battle on this earth but I have to believe he has gained so much more.
Steve told me a few days before he passed he was going to miss me so much. I told him, NAH! We are going to miss you but you will be cheering us on so we make it to see you one day!
In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Without donations for research, loved ones like Steve will not have a fighting chance!
A gathering for Steven will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
