He was born on the 25th of September 1954, in Beaumont, Texas, where he spent his early childhood. His family moved to Houston in the 60’s and Steve attended Hunters Creek Elementary, and St. John’s School. He spent a term at Cardigan Mountain in Connecticut and Le Rosey in Gstaad, Switzerland. He attended Colorado Rocky Mountain College where he became involved in the music world playing in rock and blues bands in Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, California and Nevada.
Known to many as “Little Stevie Wilson,” Steve played in the New Orleans French Quarter for several years at Club 544 with Gary Brown and came to know many notable musicians, many of whom he remained in contact with. He spent several years in Austin and promoted his band “Project Terror.” He had the opportunity to perform in venues that included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Stevie Ray Vaughn. During his musical years he also played with many of the old blues gentlemen of Houston, inclusive of Little Joe Washington, Earl Gillam, Oscar Perry, Clarence Green and Teddy Reynolds, with Mac and Company. He had occasion to play with Muddy Waters at Steamboat Springs in Houston. Muddy said he was “good little drummer.” He loved the blues. He played with Chris Masterson at the Big Easy and Billy Blues in Houston in the early 80’s. In 1998 he had the opportunity to perform at Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic with Willie Jaye. In 1999 he played for the last time at Galveston Mardis Gras.
Stevie’s family history dates back to the MacDonald clan, and he wore his colors with pride. He was also descended from one of the founders of Denison, Texas, and he lived part of the time in a historic home he and his wife restored there.
Stevie supported the Houston Food Bank, Houston SPCA, the 100 Club, and many other charities. He was an eccentric with a gentle soul and a huge heart who was loved by many.
Steve was predeceased by his brother, Bradley Randolph Wilson and his beloved mother, Betty Kiley Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Terisa Washington Wilson; step-daughters, Bonnie Louise Baker and Katie Pearl Thomas; his father James Cooke Wilson Jr.; brother, James Cooke Wilson III and his wife Karen; sister, Margaret Wilson Reckling; nephew, Thomas Radcliffe Reckling, V.; and niece Kelsey Randolph Reckling; as well as numerous cousins and his uncle Dr. Mavis P.
