The Lord, in his mercy and wisdom, peacefully called S.T. to his eternal resting place with his daughters by his side at his home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Born in Winnsboro, Texas on October 6, 1933, S.T. grew up tending his family's farm together with his 11 brothers and sisters plowing the fields with one mule. His parents raised him instilling the word of God in his heart and with a fierce devotion to his family and faith, he lived an honest life as a man of integrity. Even at 10 years old, he had already helped build the Lawrence homestead and worked for money to buy his first gun. That ol' "Tatter Red" was one heck of a hardworking, self driven cowboy.
S.T. maintained that hard working mindset as he followed his siblings to Houston after being the last one to leave home. Taking on numerous jobs led him to proudly delivering milk at Borden's. After getting experience at Borden's, he became a truck driver where he worked and retired from Central Freight Lines after 33 years with a perfect driving record.
At 17, S.T. met the love of his life. At 18 he and Janie were married, and he began to take on the responsibility of caring for and supporting his new family which included his mother n law, Clarice, and her children: Joann, Bubba, Wayne, and Linda. Imagine all of them living in a tiny garage apartment with stairs, a new baby, all the noise, and the night shift at work.
Without complaint or question, S.T. always cared for family, friends, and neighbors. With his strong hands, S.T. was a "Jack Of All Trades". There was nothing he couldn't do and graciously would lend his hands to anyone in need by fixing cars, plumbing work, and building fences. On the weekends, those same family and friends would meet him and Janie at their typical hangouts for dancing, music, dominos, pool, and shuffleboard. I can still see everyone sitting around the table telling stories, laughing, and having the time of their lives. S.T. lived life that way. Savoring the goodness of life with his kind heart was the epidemy of this noble man. What an incredible human he was.
S.T. is survived by his loving wife Janie. March 15, 202 will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his children Gay Ann, Hollis and his wife Monique, Carla, and two sisters: Dell Hernandez and Jerrie Akin. He has 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. All whom he truly loved.
