Bertha Hernandez is sad to announce the passing of her husband and the love of her life, Sisto Y. Hernandez of Houston, Texas. Sisto died on April 7 at the age of 91 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Sisto was born on March 28, 1932 in Little River, Texas to Francisco & Antonia Hernandez. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and was a proud member of the JROTC and the Marine Corps Reserve. In September of 1950, he was called to active duty and deployed to Korea to serve in the Korean War. He was promoted to Sergeant and later returned home safely in March of 1952. In 1954, Sisto married the love of his life, Bertha. They were married for 69 years. In 1956, he began his career with Delta Airlines as a Crew Scheduler and retired after 34 years.
Sisto is survived by his wife, Bertha, four children — Sisto, Jr. (spouse Olga), Gilbert (spouse Kerri), Anita (spouse Tony), and Rita; five grandchildren — Timothy, Heather (spouse Michael), Marisa Elaine, Nicholas (spouse Nincy), and Paul; and four great-grandchildren — Kalina, Liam, Sisto, and Jesse.
His passion, without a doubt, was always his family. The many kind sentiments the family has received is a true testament of Sisto’s character. He will always be remembered and held near and dear to our hearts.
A visitation for Sisto will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 2516 NAVIGATION BLVD, HOUSTON, TX 77003. A rosary service will occur Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 2516 NAVIGATION BLVD, HOUSTON, TX 77003. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St Patrick Catholic Church, 4918 Cochran St, Houston, TX 77009. A committal service will occur Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
