Sibyl Marie Barclay Kirby was born on August 9, 1939 in Sweeney, Texas to John Henry Barclay and Cora Bell English Barclay. She died December 11, 2017 at home in Richmond, Texas at the age of 78 years. She previously lived in Sweeney, Huntsville, Bay City, and Houston, Texas.
She graduated from Sweeney High School, Sweeney, Texas. She married Chester “Jerry” Kirby on June 1, 1957and celebrated 49 years of marriage. She later worked as Mother's Day Out director at Westheimer and Wilcrest Baptist churches in Houston, Texas.
Sibyl was an active and supportive member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Golden Heirs Choir. She had an infectious humor, and was always the “life of the party”. A few months ago she was recognized in a health magazine for her willingness to be used in research for cancer patients. She was such a giving person, always thinking of others. Her awards were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Kirby; sisters, Vera, Clarice, Elaine; and one brother, Raymond. She is survived by one son, Kenneth Kirby and wife Daphney, daughter Karen Heaton, and daughter Kimberly Kirk and husband Larry; grandchildren Sarah Kirby, Katy Piskorick and husband Dave, Kristie Kirby, Brittany Causby and husband Anthony; Bailey Sherretts, Ashly Kirk, and Amber Kirk; great grandchildren Brysen, Boston, D. J. and Amber’s baby boy due to arrive in April, and numerous nephews, nieces and a large host of friends that she called family.
Pall bearers are Raymond Valenta, Doug Cavender, Joe Sanchez, Steve Cupit, Gail Graves and Micah Mathews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Houston Methodist Cancer Center, 16655 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77479 or Calvary Baptist Church, 4111 Airport Ave, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church, 4111 Airport Avenue, Rosenberg, Texas. Officiating are Dr. Randy Hatchett, and Casey DuBose. Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
