Shirley Beatrice Wells, the first born of four children to Eugene and Creola Bryant Wells in Spring, Texas on May 17, 1939. Shirley accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Spring, Texas where she directed the choir and played the piano for many years. She frequently volunteered to play for other churches in the surrounding areas of Spring, Huffsmith and Houston, Texas.
Shirley graduated from G. W. Carver High School in Houston, Texas, and attended Texas Southern University as a Music Major.
She received her Cosmetology Certificate from Franklin Beauty School; and continued on to receive her Texas Cosmetologist Operator’s License. She was a business owner of Shirley’s Wig & Boutique Shop. She loved fashion and assisting ladies in stepping into their beauty zone, always having the eye for beauty and style.
Shirley also attended Bellaire General Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her LVN License. She was employed as a LVN at several hospitals in the Houston and San Antonio areas. She received a certificate as a certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor where she volunteered for Crisis Hotline as well as Chemical Abuse Programs. She also received a diploma in Medical Office Management from Texas College of Medical and Dental Careers. Those who worked with Shirley often expressed how pleasing her personality was and what a joy it was to be around her. She was thought of as being kind and compassionate to all who knew her in the workplace.
Upon retirement, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, listening to music, playing the piano, gardening and traveling.
God called Shirley home on December 6, 2024 where she peacefully transitioned into His Kingdom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Creola Bryant Wells; husband, Woodrow Williams; and brother, Bishop Lee Edward Wells.
Shirley leaves to cherish her loving memories; her children, Franzetta Kay Knowles and Wilbert Weldon Criswell; siblings, Mary Wells James and Charles Melvin Wells; a close cousin, Rosa Madden; nieces and nephews, Genia, Beverlee, Djuna, Eletria and Lee Jr. She also leaves a host of great-nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home Chapel located at 10401 W. Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088. The funeral service will immediately follow from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The committal will be held immediately following services at Paradise North Cemetery 10401 W. Montgomery Rd. Houston, Texas 77088.
