Shirley Rose Quinn passed away peacefully on June 17, 2019, in her home in Cypress TX, surrounded by family. She was born September 13, 1935 in Mt Clemens MI to Clayton and Amelia Kerton, being the second of two daughters.
Her childhood years were spent playing in her parent’s apple orchard and property with her older sister Gloria. She attended public Mt Clemens High School and met her love Patrick Desmond Quinn at a function from a neighboring Catholic High School. Meanwhile she learned court stenography and shorthand which lead to her winning the state’s award as the fastest typest. Inevitably she was quickly snatched up to work at a nearby Law firm. She loved her job and it kept her busy while she waited for her love Patty to return from the Korean War. In 1954 she married Pat and set out to have a family. Shirley had 4 children, Patrick Jr, Daniel, Deborah and Candace over the years.
Shirley had a natural gift of design, and Pat had a hard working DYI mindset, and so they built their first house out on Moravian Dr in Macomb Township. As their family enlarged, and they saved more money, they decided to build a larger home on Lake St Clair in Venice Shores subdivision. They were hands on in the process and even poured the basement themselves. They both enjoyed expressing their talents turning their home into a show place. Being on the lake afforded them the pleasure to enjoy boating and fishing so they owned several different types and sizes of boats over the years. Their weekends were kept busy as members of the Michigan-Ontario Muskie Club boating for competitive trophy fishing and social events. Days trolling out on the water had Shirley preparing tasty “wimpie” sandwiches for her children. Winters were spent ice skating on rinks that they built on the canal system out back of their house. Snowmobiling, cooking and hunting were enjoyed with their parents and children in a cottage up past Traverse City.
Unfortunately, the construction business took a down fall and so her husband Pat found himself forced to seek work outside of Michigan. Shirley was forced to stay behind, but when their last daughter Candace graduated high school, Shirley rented out their house, and headed to Houston TX to be with Pat. They prospered once again in Texas, decided to stay, and eventually sold their home in Michigan. Fortunately, three of Shirley’s children were in Houston and so this kept her busy. She ended up taking her delicious wimpie sandwiches public and sold them at her son Pat’s restaurant in the Heights. Later she found herself doing the books for her daughter Candace’s business in Cypress. Eventually Shirley moved from Atascocita to Cypress to be closer to both of her daughters families.
Through her steadfast determination she sought to bring a sense of family tradition, love, joy and happiness to those around her. Even though Shirley experienced a good deal of bad health in her later years she remained positive and happy with a feisty wit. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Gloria Vernier. She is survived by her husband Patrick Sr and her son Patrick Jr of Cypress TX, son Daniel and wife Darcie Quinn of Macomb MI, daughter Debra and husband Larry Magid of Cypress TX, and daughter Candace and husband Eduardo Callegari of Cypress TX. Shirley had grandchildren Alex Quinn, Rebecca Lane, Andrea Quinn, Patrick and Anthony Antonucci, and Edward Callegari, and 13 nieces and nephews.
