Sherry led a full and happy life. She was married to Eugene Blake Hawk for 23 years and they had a wonderful and brilliant son, Blake Raymond Hawk, whom they called “Blaker.” She was a beloved and cherished daughter, sister and wife and was a devoted, loving mother to her only son Blaker.
After graduating from Lamar High School in Houston, Sherry obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from the University of Texas where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. During her life, she owned Ivy Tree Interior Design and served as a member of numerous boards of directors, including Southern Bancshares, First Star Bank of Bremond, Lone Star Bank of Moulton, Texas Star Bank of Lott, Sage Broadcasting and Fayette Broadcasting. Sherry is a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She is also a member of River Oaks Country Club.
Sherry had a great love of life and the outdoors, sports, skiing, fishing and bicycling. She was generous to a fault to people who were “down on their luck” and honest in her commitments. But her greatest love was to her son Blaker, with whom she and her husband traveled all over the world. As to any difficulties Sherry faced, she did so with grace, strength, dignity and love.
Sherry is predeceased by her son Blaker and by her parents, Mary Alice and Raymond Schindler. She is survived by her loving brother, Paris Ray Schindler and her loving sister, Suzanne Schindler Brown and her husband Timothy Richard Brown, and by nieces and nephews: Laura Piper Brown, Tiffani Elizabeth Jinks and her husband Brian Colby Jinks, Allyson Poppy Schrauff and her husband William Putnam Schrauff, Catherine Dane Schindler Renaudin and her husband Tyler McIntosh Renaudin, Scott Raymond Schindler and Cole Barrett Schindler; and also survived by her great nephews Barrett Colby Jinks and Preston Burke Jinks and by numerous cousins, aunts and family members.
A memorial service is to be conducted at half-past two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 2nd of March, in the Chapel of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Boyd Wagner is to officiate.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Hines Baker Room.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that donations in honor of Sherry Schindler be directed to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer, Houston, TX, 77027.
